A Vital Role

Volunteers play a vital role at Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.  Each year, hundreds of people donate thousands of hours to help us provide safety, shelter, healing, and hope to families affected by domestic abuse.  If you have time and talent you would like to share with us, we would love to have you join our volunteer family.  Volunteer opportunities are available at our locations in both Plano and Garland.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities at our Outreach Centers in Plano and Garland include:

  • Providing childcare for children of survivors while they attend therapy
  • Providing administrative support
  • Assisting with special events
  • Organizing donations

Volunteer opportunities at our Emergency Shelters include:

  • Answering the 24-hour Hotline
  • Running errands
  • Providing food
  • Grocery shopping
  • Administrative support

Volunteer opportunities at our Resale Store in Plano include:

  • Assisting customers
  • Working at the register
  • Organizing and sorting donations
  • Maintaining the store appearance

How to get started

All new volunteers must complete the individual volunteer application, background check (if 18 years of age or older), and attend a new volunteer orientation session. Orientation sessions are held at the Plano Outreach Center located at 860 F Avenue Ste 100, Plano TX 75074 and last 60-90 minutes. Seating for orientation is limited. To reserve a seat, both the application and background check must be completed. See list below of upcoming orientation sessions.   • November 20th 5:30pm (2019)
  • Orientation is not offered during the month of December.
  • January 10th 11:30am and January 24th 3:00pm  (2020)
  • February 7th 11:30am, February 21st 3:00pm
  • March 6th 11:30am, March 20th 3:00pm
  • April 3rd 11:30, April 17th 3:00pm
  • May 1st 11:30am, May 15th 3:00pm
  • June 5th 11:30am, June 19th 3:00pm

Individuals must be at least 16 years old to volunteer unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.  Children who are at least 12 years old can volunteer with a parent or guardian. Group volunteer projects are also available.

The background check is completed online and the results are automatically sent to the Volunteer Program Manager. There is a $9.95 fee for the background check.
